Our UK AAPS Chapter’s mission is to enhance research and employment opportunities by fostering interactions between students, faculty, alumni and visitors. More specifically we aim at increasing student participation in AAPS activities, providing updated information on advances in the pharmaceutical sciences and career opportunities, promoting outreach activities and creating opportunities for professional advancement.
Our chapter enjoys organizing and hosting a successful Young Scientist Development Seminar Series. Topics vary from purely scientific and academic to a variety of carrier-related subjects including job hunting, post-Ph.D. career options, start-up companies and others. Additionally, informal lunches with our guest speakers continue to be very popular and are a great forum for exchange of personal experience gained through years of work in academia/industry/government agencies. We've organized several pharmaceutical company visit for all graduate students interested in pursuing a career in industry. These visits approved to be a valuable experience for all participants.
On the other hand, our chapter also organizes social meetings including annual softball/volleyball spring picnics to train our underdeveloped myosin and actin fibers. It is a great occasion for both professors and students to meet in a non-laboratory setting and discuss the taste of KFC chicken. Since softball and volleyball games require more than just brain cell use they represent a refreshing and rejuvenating event in graduate student life. Also, every year, we welcome new graduate students at our traditional fall picnic.
